Little Farmers Cay to Norman’s Pond Cay, Exumas

With the light wind and slow sailing, Dan said it feels like race day sailing weather. The wind was on our beam and we sailed on a relaxing port tack. Most mornings I write the journal for the previous day and in the evenings I edit the photos before showing a slide show of our day. If I ever get an internet connection strong enough, I look forward to sharing our journey.

It took four attempts to anchor in different locations around three different islands before we settled on Norman’s Pond. There was lots of current and not much protection in most of the area. We anchored off the northwest point of Norman’s Pond just out from a cave. The entrance was not visible until we got to shore and discovered the lovely, colorful waters in the above ground pool. Dan dived in the pool but scuba was required for the cave.

While looking for an anchorage we noticed a beach on Leaf Island full of iguanas so that was our next stop. I tentatively walked ashore for a photo and they did not appear aggressive. These are unique prehistoric looking creatures and they were everywhere on this small uninhabited island. Back on Norman’s Pond we went to check out an abandoned pond that was once home to a productive salt industry. The river like entrance started with a dam on the coast but at low tide it was too shallow and rocky to cross. This was the only way in and we couldn’t make it.
